Walking through downtown always makes me depressed. In a word, downtown Salt Lake is lame. I walked down Main Street today to go get some curry from one of my favorite local restaurants, only to find it had closed down. I was there less than two weeks ago, and all seemed fine. Now it's gone. Just a note on the door thanking people for their support over the years. I grabbed some soup from Big City Soup instead, and noticed on my way back that half the shops on Main Street, the heart of downtown, had been closed down and were for sale or lease. Supposedly the new downtown rising development is supposed to fix all that, but I worry all it will do is turn all of downtown into a giant mall.
Is it too much to ask to have a good local and small business scene downtown?
On the plus side, there was a really hot girl with crazy hair and a nose piercing that I'm pretty sure noticed me checking her out. She smiled. Not all is lost I suppose.
